MONTBLANC Fountain Pen Noblesse Oblige
Montblanc · 1980s–early 2000s · Cartridge and converter
Slim cartridge pen
The Noblesse Oblige was one of Montblanc's lower-priced lines, a long, light pen sold alongside the Meisterstück for everyday writing. Collectors don't agree on its dates. Some put it in the 1980s, and an owner's review has it on sale until about 2004, when Montblanc moved firmly into luxury goods. You'll find them with lacquered metal bodies and in plain plastic, with gold or platinum-colored trim, and the two feel quite different in the hand. The cap band reads MONTBLANC NOBLESSE OBLIGE, which separates it from the older and thinner Noblesse. The clip is unusual, two parallel bars instead of a solid strip. It fills by cartridge or converter, and owners say a standard international converter fits. The nib is plain 14K gold, friction-fitted, in grades from fine to double broad. It suits someone who wants a Montblanc gold nib in a slim, light pen that posts well.

The cap snaps on lightly, and some owners find the fit less secure than they'd like. Replacement feeds are hard to find if one breaks, so a damaged feed usually means hunting for a parts pen.
Buying guide
For a Noblesse Oblige to write with, buy one with a stated 14K nib grade from a seller with near-perfect feedback, and $170 to $240 delivered gets a clean one. There are 39 listed, about three in four from Japan, and most ask $270–380 delivered, with marble finishes asking $499 and up. Read the cap band in the photos for MONTBLANC NOBLESSE OBLIGE, since the older plain Noblesse is a thinner pen, and ask for a side photo of the feed, because a broken one is hard to replace. Only one listing mentions a converter, so plan on buying a standard international one.
