Sterling silver crosshatch, 1964 to 1994
Kenneth Parker wanted a new top-line pen in the 1960s, and Don Doman designed it under his eye. Parker finished it in 1963, its 75th year, and sold the first one in 1964 as the Sterling Silver Ciselé. The crosshatch came from Kenneth Parker's own English silver cigarette case. The grid was cut into solid sterling and darkened, so the pattern looks better with use. The nib unit is held in the section by friction and turns to suit your grip, an idea taken from the short-lived Parker VP, and the triangular section helps you line it up. It fills by cartridge or converter. A 1968 pen is an early flat-top, made before the 1970 change to a cap crown with a small dish for a logo. U.S.-made 75s have 14K nibs, and later French ones often have 18K. Parker made it until 1994, with a huge range of nib grades along the way.
Some sections have shrunk and won't screw securely into the barrel. Pens from 1970 to 1991 have a thin gold band at the front of the section that ink can eat away, and sterling dents more easily than steel.
Buying guide
Our pick is the flat-top 75 with a 14K nib at $131 delivered, since a flat cap crown means a pen from before 1970 and it asks less than most later ones. There are 37 for sale and most ask $140–210 delivered, with many shipping from Japan, and an 18K nib usually means a later French-made pen. Check the crosshatch for dents in the photos, and ask whether the barrel screws on firmly, since a loose one can mean a shrunken section. Be wary of the $255 flat top whose title matches a $134 listing from another seller, and skip the $440 pen from Japan with $80 shipping.

$120.00est. delivered
An extra-fine 75 titled excellent for $120 delivered, under the $140–210 band even with $25 shipping from Japan. Ask whether the nib is 14K or 18K, since that tells you if it's a U.S. or later French pen.
